Prophets of a Future Not Our Own

Over the past 15 or so years, this prayer has been like a pillar to which I keep returning, time after time. I came across it as a single person who wanted to change the world and had the time and energy to be deeply involved in the social justice movement. I returned to it as a newlywed DINK (Double Income No Kids) who, along with my husband, had the means to to save up our money, quit our jobs, and spend the summer traveling in E. Africa with no solid plan and no agenda other than wanting to help…

These days, as a mom with two kids, I find myself in a very different season. I return to this prayer yet again, and it rings truer than ever as I begin to realize my limitations and grow in bringing my whole self to the table, however incomplete, “…an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.”
